There is an automated calculation of race and series results using the RYA Portsmouth Yardstick (PY) handicapping and the RYA Rules of Racing. All values can be configured to meet your club rules.

When ever a result is added to a race, the positions and allocated positions for the race are automatically recalculated. The overall series result is also recalculated. If race points are allocated based on the number series entries, there may be an interim recalculation of race points which affects other races in the series.
Race results only show at the series level if:
The race order can affect the final series results when considering tie breaks. The race order is determined by the race name. If necessary, edit the race name to ensure the correct order, e.g. "Race 1", "Race 2", "Race 3" and not "Race One", "Race Two", "Race Three".
If a helm didn't compete in all races in the series then "Did Not Compete" entries are automatically generated for each race they missed when building the series result. These don't show on the race results. You may also manually add these to the race results.
For mixed fleet racing, it is possible that in some races a particular fleet has no entries. You may wish to exclude this from the series result by enabling the "Empty Fleet Detector" on the Point Allocation Card. For example, if there were 4 races sailed in series, but in one race the fast fleet had no entries, then the fast fleet series results are calculated on the basis of just 3 races sailed.
Until a race is marked as run (by clicking the "Add Result" button), the series will show as "Not Started". It will then show as "In Progress". It will only show as "Completed" once the results for each race in the series have been marked as confirmed by clicking the "Confirm Results" button on the results page. This can only be done by the Sailing Admin
These calculations have been verified by comparing results with the well known HalSail system and by a number of experienced Race Officers and Sailing Secretaries.
All calculations have extensive code "unit tests". These verify the results of known races, checking that each rule is applied correctly. They also check against different configurations in the "Handicap Cards" and "Point Allocation Cards"
