Members can simply decline an assigned duty, provided it is within a given time window. The duty goes back into the unassigned pool and a notification email is sent to the duty admins.
This is similar to the "free cancellation" option when booking accommodation and travel online.
This is different to swapping duties. When swapping, the current assignee remains responsible for the duty until they have found someone to swap with.
